STEINER & SPIRIT: Fruits of Anthroposophy
The articles in this issue lead off with Gene Gollogly's helpful open letter to our readers, "What Lies behind Our Fundraising Appeals, or How Our Finances Work." Here Gene clears up numerous misconceptions about how the press is financed and operates. He describes the whole publishing process—in particular, how we are proceeding with "The Collected Works of Rudolf Steiner" and the real costs of publishing, especially as a "specialized," not-for-profit organization. This is an eye-opener for those unfamiliar with our publishing process!
Next in our articles section is Christopher Bamford's excellent new introduction to A Way of Self-Knowledge, currently being prepared as an updated volume in "The Collected Works of Rudolf Steiner." Many who are familiar with this work by Rudolf Steiner frequently consider it to be one of the most valuable resources for the practice of Anthroposophy. Christopher's introduction helps put it in the context of both Steiner's overall spiritual science and our individual, practical application to daily life.
Also included is an unusual collection of short writings, "The Other Steiner: Snapshots of Rudolf Steiner." These recollections, translated especially for this issue by Mado Spiegler, all provide "up close and personal" looks at a man who seldom talked about himself. You may be surprised!
Another upcoming book in the collected works series is Esoteric Lessons, 1904-1909. We excerpted a section of another of Chris Bamford's insightful introductions, plus a short lecture and esoteric lessons by Rudolf Steiner. These fascinating extracts provide a sense of how Steiner worked with his esoteric school.
We also feature an article by William (Jens) Jensen, ”Benziger Family Winery: A Biodynamic Success Story.” Jens interviewed Mike Benziger and managed to get the scoop on one of the most successful family-owned wineries in North America—and "success" here means much more than being a top-selling, highly rated producer of fine wines.
And, if all of this isn't enough, we've included an excerpt from the authors' introduction to How Wide the Heart: The Roots of Peace in Palestine and Israel, the new book from Marko and Ana Pogacnik. Given the recent events in the Middle East, the Pogacniks' spiritual views and suggestions have become even more urgent than when they conceived and wrote the book.
